Perplexity AI, a cutting-edge artificial intelligence company backed by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, is reportedly in the midst of a major fundraising effort.
According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, the company is looking to raise $500 million in a bid to more than double its valuation to over $8 billion.
With heavy hitters like Nvidia already in its corner, Perplexity AI is seeing its revenue grow steadily, currently estimated at around $50 million annually.
However, the company declined to comment on its fundraising plans when approached by reporters.
Navigating Legal Obstacles
Despite its impressive growth, Perplexity AI hasn’t been without controversy. In October, the company faced a cease-and-desist order from The New York Times, which accused the startup of using its content without permission in its generative AI tools.
Other major outlets, including Forbes and Wired, have also expressed concerns over potential plagiarism.
In response, Perplexity AI introduced a revenue-sharing model to foster collaboration with content publishers, hoping to smooth out relationships with media organizations.
Innovative AI Tools and Offerings
Perplexity AI is widely recognized for its advanced AI-driven search capabilities, which give users quick, well-sourced answers to complex queries.
The platform uses multiple large language models (LLMs), such as OpenAI’s models and Meta’s LLaMA, to provide detailed summaries and insightful responses.
Pushing Forward Despite Challenges
While Perplexity AI faces ongoing scrutiny from media companies, its ambitious funding goals, innovative technology, and strong financial backing suggest the company is poised for continued growth.
By offering unique tools that blend search and AI, Perplexity remains at the forefront of the generative AI landscape, undeterred by the legal challenges ahead.
